You are likely dealing with hardened mineral deposits if those stains in the toilet bowl don’t go away after scrubbing them. It leaves stains on your toilet and get even more stuck the longer they stay there as hard water has a high concentration of minerals, like calcium and magnesium. Today, we Busy Bee Cleaning & Janitorial Services would like to share some tips removing the hard water stains from your porcelain thrones.
Can You Use Baking Soda & Vinegar to Clean a Toilet?
Vinegar and Baking Soda. Both household items commonly used for cleaning are white vinegar and baking soda. You won’t have to use harsh chemicals to clean your toilet, and you will still get good results quickly.
1) Pour the Vinegar. Begin by grabbing a cup of vinegar and pour it in the toilet bowl, then use a toilet brush to swish the vinegar around. Allow the vinegar to break down the stains for a few minutes. Start working on dissolving the mineral deposits. The mineral deposits will start being dissolved by the acidic nature of vinegar.
2) Baking Soda Should be Poured Next. Pour another cup (or two) of vinegar after adding a cup of baking soda into the toilet bowl. There’s a chemical reaction when baking soda and vinegar mix, so know that when you notice the mixture start to fizz, this is normal. For ten minutes, allow the solution rest.
3) Scrub with the Toilet Brush. Especially on stubborn stains, start swishing the solution around the toilet. The vinegar and baking soda should loosen up the grime. Do not flush the toilet yet and move on to the next step.
4) Rinse After a Brief Wait. Wait for about 30 minutes as the solution does it work. Make sure to swish the solution around every 10-15 minutes. Use your toilet brush to scrub them if some hard water stains remain. Flush the toilet to rinse after the time’s up and the stains are gone. Your toilet bowl should be free of water stains now.
Can a Pumice Stone Remove Toilet Stains?
There is another method you can try if some of the stains refuse to go. Do not rely on this method too often as it is riskier than the vinegar and baking soda method is. It could damage the toilet. This method does require a pumice stone and some elbow grease, however.
– Begin by wetting the stone and the area you will scrub, make sure to keep them both wet as you work.
– You will notice a gray paste starts to form, scrub in a circular motion and apply pressure to the stained areas. Don’t worry stress over that paste. The paste is the residue from the pumice stone and the water mixed up. Until the mineral buildup is gone, then rinse, rub the paste on the stains. With regular cleaning, you can prevent stains in your toilet. The best way to prevent them will be to clean regularly since the stains come from mineral buildup. Try scrubbing your toilet once a week to avoid the minerals hardening.
